subject: Help Needed!

Hi All,
can any of you people out there help me?
What I want to do is the following:
read from a file for example "App.cfg"
Retrieve the information contained therein one line at a time
and pass each piece of this information to a variable. Each line
of the file will contain a different piece of information which
needs to be passed to the main program and it may be a string on
one line and an integer on the next.
                i.e. Text string
                     x co-ordinate
                     y co-ordinate
                     Text string
                     etc.
I can do this in pascal but I'm now trying to convert all of my
pascal programs to C/C++.
I've got as far as being able to determine whether or not
the file "App.cfg" exists and take appropriate action if not. But
all of the stuff that I've read concerning 'files' only talks
about 'reading the file in' and only stopping when it gets to the
end of the file and not at the end of the line.
Any assistance at all on this matter would be gratefully
recieved as I'm getting to the point of despair.
Thanks from a would be C/C++ programmer.
