Soundies predate both MTV and the Beatles by some time -- short films 
projected on a video-jukebox type device that were around as early as 
just after WWII.  I've seen Nat King Cole and his trio, Jimmy Rushing 
with the Count Basie band and many others from long before the Quarrymen 
days.  Sometimes the production was quite sophisticated and metaphorical 
in the way that films of rock songs like the Beatles were.
