Hello,

AM> AM>> Bzzzt. Wrong. Well... it's not brokedn with regards to THIS
AM> AM>> problem.

AM> BP> From what I have been told, it is broken, because that's the only way
AM> BP> it sends mail out.

Well there is not sufficent quote to tell what you are saying, but I am a M
A X's BBS operator brendon i think your name is, and my BBS CAN be
configured to use 8.3 char filenames just by pressing on a flag.

AM> No. It can also send mail out in 2D format, provided that you tell it to
AM> do so.

AM> AM>> Any and all decent mailers that have 2D disabled would have
AM> AM>> *exactly* the same problem. The cure is simply to tell
it to use 2D
AM> AM>> pkts instead of 4D pkts for that particular system.

AM> BP> Fido standards indicate that you can only send 2d files, ala ibm 8.3
AM> BP> filenames.

AM> MAXs is capable of performing to most Fido standards including this...
AM> where MAXs is broken is in Netmail handling.

Exactly

AM> It's also capable of performing to other, non-fido standards. The fact
AM> that he's using non-fido standards on a fido type network only indicates
AM> misconfiguration, not "broken SW"
AM>
AM> AM>> Even easier... configure it properly! -OR- tell the IBM SysOp in
AM> AM>> question to update his SW to something more modern which
CAN handle
AM> AM>> 4D pkts.
AM>
AM> BP> Trying that will only further denigrate the Amiga in the eyes of the
AM> BP> IBM owner.
AM>
AM> This'll happen no matter what. [shrug] Even if the Amiga User is 100%
AM> right...
AM>
AM> BP> How about sticking to known and accepted standards.

M A X's BBS Performs Known Standards
