Check out Dune By frank Herbert some time. Not your usual nerd science fiction. Very stong womans roles as combination political and religious leaders - power brokers A mother molds her son to be a leader. A real swashbuckler with mysticysm, gallantry, self sacrifice, war against and evil empire and ruling house Harkonnen. Knife fights. Single combat warriors. Duels to the death and honor in the midst of treachery. A bit of a slow starter and lots of words to be defined as you go along in order to properly follow it but once you get to the planet that is the source of the life extending and ability enhancing spice it's a real battle of titans against a initially small freedom fighter force. It's a big wow. I've rad it at least 10 times over since my middle teens and could read it yet again. I don't believe that I have ever read another book more than twice. ...
