Some day in the future hopefully. I just don't think it would be prudent
to move intentionally right now.
btw, you should see how well the AS/400 runs Notes! (it's a bit expensive
if we didn't have the 400 for other things though! I think they target it
a LARGE shops as even our puny 400 could do quite a few users.) It's quite
fast and we haven't had so much as a hiccup since I moved it there, and the
live backups are all handled by other sw we already had.

Both things sound prudent to me. I'm trying to get up to speed on Linux
myself, and I just downloaded FreeBSD yesterday and am going to see how
that does on various server tasks we do. (we don't do web serving as a
rule, though a do occasionally use the 400 for that for special stuff.)
Cost is my biggest complaint with Windows for internal stuff, so if the
budget is there, it would be a no-brainer for me too. I am kind of itching
to put in a Linux server for something though, if only to tell division
that I'm progressive rather than just a status quo type. (They know that
already, but reinforcement always helps.)

Ah, yes, the perception of the PTB that we can do anything like this
immediately, ain't it fun?
