ac> The other day I stumbled across an archive named TPSQAPI1.LZH, written

ac> (or does anybody else) know of any other (C, Pascal or other) source
ac> code to access Squish bases?

There's an excellent one by Mark May, for oop Turbo Pascal, filename
MKSM106.LZH from 1:110/290 ... Thanks to the oop interface, gives you an
uniform access to JAM, Hudson, Squish, *.MSG and Ezycom... Supposed to have
WildCat! and PCBoard coming, but I wouldn't count on it, tough you could
"easily" add it yourself... If they do come, adding support for
those in your program simply mean recompiling your programs and telling
your users about it... Excellent!
