Are you using OS/2 API calls such as DosOpen() directly, or are you going
through a C/C++ runtime library (iostreams, fopen(), etc.)?

If you are using OS/2 API calls directly, then use
DosSetMaxFH() or DosSetRelMaxFH() calls to increase the
number of handles available to your process.

If you are using C/C++ runtime library calls, the above suggestion may or
may not work. Even if you DosSetMaxFH() a very high limit on file handles,
there may still be a limit in the run-time library that would need to be
changed some other way. How to change this limit (or even if such a change
is possible) depends upon the particular compiler run-time libraries you
are using.
