SH> ST> friend...they just aren't good companions...;(
SH> They are so pretty though... I love the pretty pastel colors

I think so. I had some for years. My males were always lovable and the
females were too. They had to be handfed ( and I used to raise scores of
them) and YOU had to understand lovebird psychology. The females were
the ones that got a bit nippy when they were old enough to breed, The
major way that they showed it was to bite anything that came near their
house (cage), including human hands. i found out that if removed from
the cage to a place where they could not see it, they were still the
loving little stinkers they used to be.
I no longer handraise LB's due to the polyoma scare as I do raise Macaws
and other larger valuable birds. Not all lovebirds have or carry polyoma
or PBFD but statistically a large number do. I do not want to take
chances with my big babies so I no longer hand raise them. They are
parent raised and brokered out. I do miss them, however. My last pet LB
died this year and I miss her.
SH> ST> That is a great price....I paid $50 for each of my tiels from a
SH> ST> local breeder...;) I would prefer to get a bird from a local
SH> ST> breeder rather than a pet store...but that is my
SH> ST> preference..and I was very very lucky to get my tiels from a
SH> ST> woman that knew her babies..she is now one of my best
SH> ST> friends...;) I'm getting my new bird from a breeder in Arizona
SH> ST> that I met over the internet...have been talking to him for
SH> ST> several months...and couldn't find one in the area that wasn't
SH> ST> related to mine...;)
SH> Yeah, the 'tiel that i had was from a pet store, and she
SH> was ill from the day i got her. (Cold-like symptoms and matted
SH> feathers under her eye.) $50 is still a good price though...
SH> that's about the going rate around here for a bird from a
SH> breeder. Pet stores of course hike the price up to make a
SH> profit. Saw a lovely greenwing macaw baby last month that the
SH> store was asking $3,000 for! (You can get one from a breeder
SH> for less than half that.) Ay caramba!
