subject: Various and Sundry Entry Level Q`s

I am an extremely amateur programmer. I own Microsoft C/C++ ver. 7, the
Professional Basic version 7.1 (offered as an upgrade from QuickBasic as I
recall) and MASM 5.1+, all of which have languished on the shelf as I've
pursued studies elsewhere. Now I want to return to programming in OS/2 --
well, that should read *begin* programming in OS/2. The good news is I
don't have anything to unlearn. The bad news is I have these tools which
I'm not sure can play in this arena. Can you please advise me on (1) the
status of my software -- is it scrap, is it upgradeable, should I bother,
can I afford it; (2) the intro OS/2 level programming reference / tutorial
par excellence; and (3) if (1) is questionable, what would I do well to
purchase or acquire?
