subject: 56K Upgrade..

Gary Gilmore Questioned Wolfgang Ernicke, at 01:03 on 08 Dec 97:
Hi Gary,
GG> There's really no reason to get a 56k modem unless you
GG> have something to connect to that's using a 56k "server" modem, like a
 GG> BBS, ISP, etc.
My net server paNgea is equipped and Freenet is also going the 56k route so
the speed is there if ya have the modem. :+)
GG> Now a upgrade to 33600 -is- worth it, and since you
GG> don't have that, perhaps a 56k is worth the upgrade for the benefit of
getting
 GG> the V34 (33600) connects.
Yes this was my thinking as well, I had contacted supra@sales awhile back
asking if they still offered to send the upgarded modem (as I run a BBS and
don't want it down) and when I got it I would send the 28800 back, they did
this for me when I upped to the v34 from VFC, I thought this was a GREAT
service for sysops, they even included a FEDEx form to send back the VFC, all
I did was call FedEx and they came and picked it up and that was that. They
had informed me that they would still do this, but that was awhile back and
I'm wondering if this is still possible. And what the cost would be to do
this from my 28800 to the 56k? I think it was $49.95 to upgrade the data pump
from 28800 to 33600. I guess in this case it would be a bit more involved,
eh? :+) Ya I'm Canadian Eh! Heh heh..
Regards,
Wolf...
