I doubt if this was a problem with the U2. Its flight envelope
was quit limited and we could readily catch up to them. the heat
rise due to its speed might have been 5 degrees or about.
Comparable to a T-33 in performance. The "coffin corner" was
indeed slim and pointed. Overspeed or stall one over the other.
The Mach 12 speed of the shuttle was related to the speed of
sound at ground level. In a vacuum, your walking speed would be
Mach 15 or more. Tee ! hee !
