Saw that in the operators manual for the thing.
neat addition to this story - we went down to Victoria, TX this past weekend,
and stopped in Cuero, a little town around 50km from Victoria to see the guy
I bought the 2m rig from. Looked up, and there was 11 elements, on a pole
with a rotator on it. He said "That's yours too, whenever you wanna get it."
So I asked how much, and he shocked me with "No, it comes with the Radio!"
I can deal with that! ;-)

(note, when I said Tone Pad, I was talking about sub-audible tones (better
known as PL tones))

I'm thinking if I can generate sub-audible tones and feed them in from the
rear of the rig, at that T-pad point, then a DTMF mic would be handy for some
repeaters functions.

Nah - mobil operation is MUCHLY attractive when you can transmit a -lot-
farther than you should. Makes the playing feild more level. You can
receive a lot farther than you can talk, in most mobile applications, and if
the guy at the base station you're talking to is running 50w and a beam,
pointed at you, your vertical and 25w isn't going to carry as far as you'll
be able to hear.

Sounds like it should work as advertised! Phase in another 13-element beam
and be twice as loud!

Ya gotta be rolling down the highway, Rob, before you can key that puppy up!
(chuckle)
J.D. /K1ZAT used to have a 1968 Volkswagon Sqareback. It was the first year
they put fuel injection on their 'pancake' engine. He had a Swan 350 in the
car. His wife was driving and he was trying to work some CW.
He said they about lost their teeth from being jarred when he sent -...- to
test it out. Seems the fuel injectors didn't know what to do with RF
present, so they just stopped sending fuel to the cylinders... at 65+ mph
