I can sort of understand someone who has made friends here who have mostly
all passed on could develop a longing for the past, think now is not as
great in comparison, and maybe are even saddened by the thought of
participating.

I sort of look at it as, while some friends have left, so have some that we
maybe don't miss as much -- i.e. it evens out.
