Well, is some areas it has become a problem. Mostly it's due to a lack of
common sense and courtesy by a few individuals that kills it for all. (Isn't
that always the way?)
I have heard stories of hardcore fans who have set up night photo shots
without
telling, or asking permission of, the railroad. Can you imagine having a
strobe or flashbulbs go popping off in your eyes without warning?
Or, the railfan who brought his family, set up a tent next to the tracks, by
the yard throat, and went off on his photo shoot, leaving his kids to roam
around unsupervised all over the tracks?
There's other stuff, too, but like I say, a bit of common sense would help
a lot. Where I live, we have two very good spots for railfans to watch
trains, one at a public parking lot, the other at a grade crossing with a
large parking area next to it. Both are the cleanest, best maintained
areas around, as the locals clean up after themselves, and watch out
for suspicous goings on.
