MORTON 1830-1920
Researcher: Steve Hayes
PO Box 7648, Pretoria, 0001 South Africa
hayesstw{at}yahoo.com
MORTON, Mary Nevard, b. c. 1838, probably in Colchester, Essex,
England; m. 1856 at St Botolph's, Colchester to Friedrich
August Decker, a soldier of the British German Legion from
Colchester Camp, originally from Auerstedt, Prussia. They went
to King William's Town, British Kaffraria, South Africa, with
the British German Legion in 1857, and had a son Edwin Robert
Morton Decker. Marriage certificate shows Mary's father as
George Morton of St Botolph's. Family legends say that a
relation was "Lady Mount" who was a member of Queen Victoria's
household - probably untrue, but there may be a connection to a
Mount family. Looking for information about Mary's parents,
possible siblings, and descendants.
