subject: Bloody internet

Hello Rod,

CB>> Anyone here know of a good book or other source

 RG> Yup :-)

Good...

RG> Soon to be released is Gaelyne's "Internet For Commodore users".
RG> Don't let the name fool you though, almost everything in it is also
RG> applicable to other computers too.

Yup, those words mean the came thing no matter what cpu
you are using to access it ;)

RG> The only thing you'll find missing RG> instructions on how to
 RG> point & click,

That's to do with the apps at this end anyway. I've downloaded
a few (you were right, it's slow.. should or might speed up when
their new 512kbs line is turned on next week) and found the win
clickky apps a poor bunch compared with some of the Fidonet readers
I've been using for the last few years.

A utility to convert the IDX or similar files that are created
when downloading newsgroups to and from MSG or even bluewave
formats... I'd *like* to see that!

RG> and how to setup a PPP/SLIP account (Cos C= users don't have
RG> this ability yet). The book assumes you will be using a Unix
RG> shell account, but it doesn't assume any prior knowledge of
 RG> Unix commands.

PPP is the only way I've got of connecting, short of
getting a second ISP, as the one I chose only supports
PPP. This dosent matter to me anyway, I wasn't so much after
"what program to use for..." info, but rather what the i-words
mean, and info on basically how the internet works.

RG> It covers all the main "Internet" topics, such as Telnet,
FTP, Email,
RG> Newsgroups, IRC (chat) etc, etc.

Yep, them's the ones :)

RG> Contact Gaelyne Gasson for more info.

Done.

 RG>

Don't forget to ask her for your 10% commision ;-)

Regards,
Chris.
