I have been using Seagate drives for quite some time and have EZ-Drive 8.02U
and 9.03U (the latest existing version is dated 1997), but they changed to
DiscWizard (with Ontrack DM) when the 3GB drives came out. I upgraded to 3G
then 8G then 20G and now 40G. :) I doubt that EZ 9.03U can see the
"big" drives
above 8GB, possibly not even above 2GB ...

The Seagate instructions refer to a DW/DM option to set the Max Reported Size
for the drive, but say it's ignored if the hardware strap is installed (as I
have done). The latest version of Disc Wizard, v10.34, wasn't available when I
installed the drive, in fact the 40G drive came with nothing at all (I had to
grab the spec's and user manual from Seagate Support) which is why I didn't use
the prescribed method to begin with. I have since D/L'd both the floppy and
CD-Rom versions of DW+DM (bootable & free) and created both (they boot fine and
I can access the F1 Help info without actually doing anything)

*Without* the strap you 1) set BIOS Drive type to NONE (so it doesn't lock up
on POST during boot) then 2) reboot using DiscWizard/DM and set the Max size to
32GB (must bypass BIOS somehow), then 3) reboot again and change BIOS back to
Type 47 with appropriate parameters, then 4) reboot again and 6) run DW/DM to
install the DDO overlay which manages the Drive space above 32GB. I assume you
then reboot a final time and re-partition and format.

I understand the above and could do this, but since I've already partitioned &
formatted 98% of 32GB with the strap, I certainly don't want to lose it all,
though about 8 GB is backed up on my other 20 GB drive (I mirror half of both
on the other). If the extra 8GB is actually extended sectors on each track then
I'm out of luck :( but if it's new/unused tracks, then it should work. :)

Eventually in 6 mo's or a year or so I'll need more space, and can use a new
40GB+ to backup the existing 40G and try the DDO method, but I could use the
space now, if it were possible to recover same ... I just can't afford to play
around at present, or I would just try it .
