KU>JK>Anyone who has a mental illness should also be tested for allergies,
KU>JK>particularly cerebral allergies, which may not show up on the usual
KU>JK>tests. And this should not be by the scratch tests. Cytotoxic testing
KU>JK>and other methods are now advocated instead.

You'd get a lot more current information by getting in touch with the
man who taught me.......Chuck Bates. He has written a couple of books
and papers on this subject. I have one of the papers in front of me:
"Essential Fatty Acids and Immunity in Mental Health", American College
of Advancement in Medicine Conference, Washington D.C., May 1190. This
contains his IMAD test for food allergies which has been accepted in
this state.
His address is:
Charles Bates Ph.D.
7112 Alderwood Ct. S.E.
Lacey WA 98503
phone (360) 456-0269
I quote from this article: "Immune Mediated Affective Disorder (IMAD) is
a variety of symptpm clusters sharing a common mechanism in the brain,
probably complement cascade triggered by circulating immune complexes.
Anaphylatoxincs are the most likely agents of insult to brain tissue and
mental functioning. Exposure to food and inhalent antigen sets the stage
for this immune activity in the brain. Some DSM diagnostic categories
will have to be retired or revised when IMAD is accepted. Attention
Deficit Disorder will be wholly absorbed by IMAD, and will remain only
as a descriptive term for a sub-population of younger IMAD victims.
Most bipolar affective disorder victims will be labled as IMAD
sufferers. Half of anxiety disordered, dysthymic, and major depressive
patients are IMAD. Some psychotics, especially those labeled affective
or atypical, are victims of severe IMAD. What all of these IMAD patients
ahve in common is a tendency to experience severe withdrawal syptoms
followed by marked remission of symptoms when food and inhalent antigen
is removed. The fact that most affective disorders are immune mediated
in the preponderance of cases is a fact that is only beginning to reach
the awareness of biological psychiatry. The inverese proposition is
true as well, not only are most psychiatric patients food allergic, but
affective psychiatric symptoms will be observed in those patients who
are seeking relief from migraine, arthritis, eczema, asthma, and the
host of other immune mediated diseases associated with food allergy."
Dr. Bates works at the Thurston/Mason Community Mental Health Center,
112 East State Street, Olympia, WA 98501. His IMAD test is given to
patients there and he has computerized the results.
If you want his papers, I can also send them to you. I am just starting
to find some of the information in them in other places on-line.
