Sounds like those trails you decribe are very nice to cycle. The area you 
describe sounds familiar to me. I was there last year, but not on the path 
unfortunately. Here In Quebec purchasing of old railway path is also popular. 
There is a nice one that starts 20km north and travels for over a hundred km. 
The path is covered with crushed stone. Very nice. In winter it is used for 
cross country skiing.
