Hi Karl,
KS>> Which I assume is a regular independent gyro backup?
     YES!
KS>> FMA? That doesn't ring my bell...
Flight Mode Annunciator Usually integrated as part of the Autopilot Mode
system. DC-10 / B747 / L1011 All Have these systems.... This is integrated
into the Primary Flight Display pn the A300. Some call it a mode select
panel...etc...
KS>> Ah. And is it a pitot/static driven indicator?
Yes as they all are. But this indication is indicated airspeed driven
through a central computer. This is not the standby IAS. So your primary
indication still remains.
KS>> That makes sense...does the a/p have CAS input?
The A/P Does not use a Computed Air Speed if this is what you are asking.
It will use IAS to keep the Aircraft at a predefined profile speed or
manually set either mach speed or speed dialed in Knots. Computed Air
speed is used by the Flight management system for speed/distance timings /
ground speed etc.
KS>>I'm from there, but now live on Ft. Gibson Lake 30 miles east.
Pretty over there....
