Hello Ardith,

We were already signing by the time we realised she
could not speak. It did not seem at all difficult at the time because she
took to it like a duck to water. My wife already had some ASL experience
and I'd dabbled in BSL years ago, though I've since forgotten all that I
learned then. Just being able to communicate with our daughter is a
beautiful thing. I suppose other parents feel the same way as their child
learns to speak.

Thanks,
  - Andy Ball.
