BL> Everyone says that those who don't learn from history are
BL> bound to repeat it, but no one has a good word to say for
BL> geography. Geography gives the *reason* for history.

BL> Yair... and I think I twitted him halfway through

Poor old Bob, completely mangled the story as usual.
Telling lies makes the NOSE grow longer, not the DICK Bob.

BL> There are a couple of best-seller War books by a retired
BL> Field Marshal (... Sir Somebody or other) where he writes
BL> about WW III and how it will be fought in Europe. It was
BL> fascinating, and mostly a geography lesson. The crap by Julius
BL> Caesar they made us read in school was the same... all geography.

BL> We are well set here in Australia, with a clear border, no path
BL> through to someone else, and our only nasty neighbour threatening
BL> nothing but tropical deserts - but it amazes me that no one ever
BL> mentions New Caledonia. The Japs swept around through the Solomons
BL> and failed at Port Moresby, but even with New Guinea they still
BL> needed to take contol of the Coral Sea before they could invade the
BL> east coast, and that meant New Caledonia (which was never under
BL> threat in WWII).

BL> Whoever holds New Caledonia can dominate the east coast
BL> of Australia, the South Pacific, and even New Zealand.
BL> New Caledonia is our Hawaii, but no Australian has the brains
BL> to see it because no one is taught geography properly.

And here silly old Bob keeps making the same mistake. Sure, there
are HEAPS of situations where you can certainly say that the geography
was vital. *BUT* silly old Bob cant quite grasp that citing a few more
does absolutely nothing to substantiate his preposterous claim that
*ALL* wars are about geography. Some aint.
