I never enjoy putting more man-hours into research than I
expect to recover when using the software but ...

It would be reasonable to try loading and resaving with a new
name using at least three WAV file editors taking care to use
the same 8/16bit, mhz, mono/stereo, and signed/unsigned format
of the original. The file sizes matching would be one
indication, a binary file-compare utility would be even better.

They _should_ match the original WAV file but there is a
possibility that the software that created the original was
faulty (unfortunately). This process might only verify the
editors but still not tell us if the WAV file is in the proper
format for a WAV.

If two of the three agree then it would be relatively safe to
assume those two are following the 'standards' for that file
format. If three out of five agree it would be even more so. :-)

If none of the three agree (matched file outputs) then it would
be a contra-indication that things are not good and probably
none of the editors is following the file format guidelines.

Either way it would answer the question but no guarantee we
would like the answers.
