yes, you are right... bootsector infectors are the most prolific of the
conventional types of viruses, though probably second now to macro
viruses...

it's been said that new computer users are confused about how there
computer works in the first place... certainly it's a good idea for them
to change the boot sequence if they can (legacy systems often don't
offer that level of configurability) but i would suggest that first they
get an explicit introduction to booting in general, booting off the hard
drive, booting off the floppy, and after that then be told of how they
can control the ability to do the latter and it's desirable security
properties...
otherwise, when they need to boot from a floppy, they may not know
how...
