Sorry to hear about your frustration. I personally agree that the
medical powers that be have overstepped the actual role that they should
fulfill in this area, ie I feel that one adult telling another adult
that they "can't" do something is taking paternalism too far and that
the medical role should be more to advise you on your medical condition
and then make recommendations ( I know someone is going to jump on me
for that one but ...), but you should keep in mind that it is your
safety that is the primary concern. Of the conditions that you list
only the valve condition may have a physiological role in the actual
bends mechanism, however, the actual role that it may contrbute is as of
yet not well defined. The other conditions do not have a direct
physiological connection to DCS but could contribute to an increased
risk if they were to impair your judgement or the medications themselves
were to change your physiological profile and therefore the inert gas
exchange mechanism. If the latter were to occur a standard dive table,
based on a general model, would not apply to you. A new model would
have to be developed which would be impractical for all involved.
It has been suggested to you that you go back to your original
doctors for a complete analysis. This would probably be the best course
as the situation as you described it lacks significant information that
anyone you consult with is going to need. Also it may open the door for
discussion and perhaps compromize. Foe example I am aware of a long
time diver and friend of mine who got bent and now is restricted only to
shallow water diving with a specific mix of NITROX. It'not the best
solution from your current perspective but couold be the way for you to
continue with something that you obviously love doing.
Another thing that I would suggest to you is that you explore some
of the other aspects of diving that do not involve the use of SCUBA.
For example there are a wide range of activities that can be best
accomplished by free diving techniques and SCUBA is actually a deficit.
At any rate get back in the water this way until the jury comes in with
the final verdict on the SCUBA issue.
Let us all know how it turns out.
