In 1999 Intel is abandoning the x86 archeture with the 64-bit
"Merced" CPU. Sometime after that, Miscrosoft is releasing an
entirely new OS for it (otherwise it has to do emulation, which
is very inefficient). Miscrosoft always wants to screw other
software companies, so they're going to make it very difficult
for them (and MS gets years of head start developing apps for
the new OS).
