To answer this one has to assume that you know it is not a real
audience reacting to an actual live Beatles (or Sergeant Pepper's
Lonely Heart Cub Band) gig.
The applause, laughter et cetera was all dubbed in later (from sound
effect sources) onto a layered multi-track studio recording.
So the laughter was actually in response to some joke or event unknown
and unconnected to the Fab Four.
I believe the laughter may have come from a BBC recording of the
satirical show "Beyond the Fringe" featuring Alan Bennett, Peter
Cook and the like.
Anyway!
Notionally, I suppose the laughter could be due to a visual comedic
device perpetrated by a band member (such as a pose or a facial
expression) or some other imagined on stage theatrical device (clowns,
jugglers?!). But surely it is mainly added to artificially evoke the
exciting atmosphere of an enthusiastic crowd eagerly anticipating an
entertaining show.
