Replying to a message of Ross Cassell to Ross Sauer: RC> SC is not that big a tobacco grower as Tennessee or North RC> Carolina. RC> Aside from that the taxes on tobacco are going through the RC> roof. Are? Cigarettes used to be about $2/carton, now they're about $30/carton (I admit I haven't checked closely, it's one bad habit I don't have - but I have lots of others to make up for it ) - and the difference is all taxes. RS>> I've already shown how corn farmers get thiese direct RS>> subsidies, they get in a month more than I would get in 25 RS>> years. RS>> Oh that's different! RC> Yes it is. I know a lot of farmers. Most grow either corn or soybeans (and most switch crops every couple of years - the field surrounding my house is usually corn but in 2009 it was soybeans). AFAIK none of them are getting much if anything from the Crop Reserve Program (which is the outfit that pays farmers not to grow crops). There isn't much land around here that is in that program. ---* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 11/200 331 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 187 140/1 226/0 236/150 SEEN-BY: 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1410 1418 266/1413 SEEN-BY: 280/1027 320/119 396/45 633/260 267 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 SEEN-BY: 2222/700 2320/100 5030/1256 @PATH: 300/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
