The EA size reported by DIR is the size as reported by the 16-bit
DosFindFirst/Next calls, and is the size of the 16-bit EA structures
in memory. The size of the 32-bit EA structures as used by the 32-bit
  DosFindFirst/Next calls is somewhat larger.

JP Software released an ironic note for 32-bit 4OS2 to the effect that
since CMD.EXE reports the 16-bit EA sizes, Rex Conn had to jigger the
sizes returned by the 32-bit calls to report the same numbers from the
  DIR command as did CMD.
