WALTER FIVE was thinking about Punishment and keyed into cyberspace:
WF>*** Quoting Bob Moylan to Andrew Grillet dated 05-19-97 ***
WF>> Welll.... the so called "normal" child might make this abstract
WF>> association depending on his/her age. However, the child with
WF>> ADD/ADHD will not simply because by the time any _punishment_ is
WF>> meted out the transgression has been forgotten.
WF>Oh, I heartily DISAGREE. I am an ADHD adult. I *was* an ADHD child.
So far, that means that you know about YOUR ADHD. Not all ADHDers are
created equal.
WF>I certainly KNEW what I was getting punished for, and *why*, most of
WF>the time. Usually it felt like an injustice, but doesn't it feel that
WF>way for most kids, no matter what their problems (if any)? Agressive
WF>behaviors expressed in unhealthy and anti-social ways have GOT to be
WF>dealt with, for the sake of the child, and for the sake of the
WF>children that the child associates with. Anything less is
WF>irresponsible. "Trouble" caused by curiosity, OTOH, is a different
WF>matter, and needs to handled with a different tack--kids need to
WF>learn about "Cause and Effect", especially ADHD kids.
Many ADHDers do not have the ability to distinguish cause and effect.
Those that can, are lucky.
