Heh heh... I know what you mean! It's possible that the first person
who tried it didn't get it tuned... or there could have been some minor
variation in how it was built... or maybe a bad connection somewhere...
or there could have been a problem in their other equipment... The
possabilities are endless.
I know that the 2M J-pole I built, (from plans in an old 73 mag), is so
good it has amazed several other Hams... I call it my "Walking stick."
In fact, it did so well connected to my HT the other night during an FM
DX session against another Ham with a 50 Watt rig and a beam, (I was
hearing and working DX that he couldn't!), that he asked me for the
plans - and might have me build one for him. (A coupla much needed bux
in my pocket for a few hours building time!) I made a Jr. version, (1/3
scale), out of an old TV rabbitt ears for the 450 HT and it works like a
champ also. I'm considering building a 4-section (aprox 12 dBd) 2M
version for the roof and keeping the 2-section one for emergency use and
field day. (Lessee... 4- 10 Ft. sections of 3/4 EMT, a can of spray
paint, 20 - 10-24 nuts & lock washers, 3 insulators, 2...) ;->
A-building we will go, a building we will go... Hi ho the merri-oh...
