I had made a New Year's Resolution to teach myself C++ this year. Then,
here in April, I am re-reading Nammir Clement Shammas, _Moving From Turbo
Pascal to C++_ and here's what I find on page 365 as the opening paragraph of
his Chapter 13:
"C++ extends the C Language by adding object-oriented programming
language features. OOP purists, however, do not regard C++ as a true
object-oriented programming language. This view is shared by the designers
of C++. Nevertheless, C++ has enough OOP extensions to meke it quite useful
in modeling objects...."
He also says in his preface to the book that he just enjoys doing things
in other languages.
He stops short of saying that Turbo Pascal is a TRUE object-oriented
programming language but I gather that is implied.
Since there are hardly ever any C++ program examples in the way of even
small programs here and even in books one hardly ever sees examples for
databases beyond the most simple structures I'm wondering if any programmers
here even care enough to comment on the above.
Quite frankly, most of the example programs of C++ I've seen that are of
any length are those dealing with the formation of geometric figures.
Am I wasting my time - even if it IS only a hobby with no purpose to make
a career of it (I'm too old).
Sincerely,
Frank
