I will be amazed if he does (and disappointed). OTOH, the US government
needs to try to make things right for the family members of the victims. I
realize that their lives can't be replaced, but perhaps their financial
security can.
As for the Marines, it's safe to say their chances for advancement are
effectively squashed. I have mixed emotions whether the aircrew whould be
cashiered or not. On the one hand, they have to live with what they've done
for the rest of their lives, and they're not going to go anywhere careerwise
in aviation. On the other, I doubt seriously that any of them will be
interested in buzzing anyone ever again. We have spent a fortune on their
aviation education and it shouldn't necessarily be thrown away so easily.
Should we release the abused woman who finally sets fire to the bed? Once
her husband is dead, she's no longer a threat to society. After what the
aircrew has experienced....the vilification in the world press, what the
Marine Corp is doing to them, and the stabs from their consciences, do they
remain a threat to society? I don't know.
