BM> I was thinking that as well but wanted to rename it mmddyyyy.log in a

If you think you can settle for the international format (yyyymmdd), maybe
this will do the trick:

DATENBR -- Version 1.0 / Aug. 30 1997
by Bj”rn Felten @ FidoNet 2:203/208.
Released to the public domain for free distribution.
Usage: DATENBR
Where is any DOS command or batch file
are the parameters for
may contain one or more occurrences of an 9-character
substitution string in the form:
@cccccccc
The '@' is literal. The 'c's may be any characters, but pound signs (#)
are treated special. For each pound sign (#), the corresponding
digit of the datestring YYYYMMDD is copied to the parameter. Other
characters are copied as-is to the parameter.
After parameter editing, will be executed.
E.g.:
To rename NODELIST.TXT to NL940427.TXT (if 1994-04-27 is todays date),
and then zip it into NODELIST.ZIP just execute something like this:
datenbr ren nodelist.txt @nl######.txt
datenbr pkzip -ex nodelist.zip @nl######.txt
Datenbr will return any errorlevel that returns which thus can
be tested for in the batchfile.
