| subject: | So how do I... |
G'day Dieter, DM> This is a weird internet question, and I can't quite figure out DM> how to do this... No one else can either, till they ask someone. DM> How do I get get the newsgroups automatically fed to me in a form DM> I can read off-line ?? Get a newsreader program or get either a decent QWK or SOUP reader and use UQWK (an online Unix utility). The newsreader programs tend to d/l ALL of the newsgroups articles in simple text format - uncompressed and one at a time which I find tedious so I use UQWK instead. UQWK lets you get the mail in either SOUP or QWK format and there are many SOUP readers available for the PC and Windows. I use QWK, but that's personal preference. DM> The newsgroups are those rec.xxx or news.xxx things. I can see DM> them online, and read them, but it's a slow and labourious process DM> paging down dozens of entries. If you use telnet and read the groups using an online utility like Tin, you can have the mail threaded so you can skip boring threads and spams, plus you can use a kill file (like the ultimate twit list) so you don't see stuff from certain people or certain subjects. And there's even a way to use the kill files from the online newsreaders in conjunction with UQWK so you don't download crap you don't wanna see either. Cheers, Gaelyne -=- QWKRR128 V5.0B [R] ---* Origin: Lunar Illuminations / moranec{at}hal9000.net.au (3:800/809.64) SEEN-BY: 50/99 620/243 623/630 711/409 413 430 808 809 934 712/515 713/888 SEEN-BY: 714/906 800/1 2 3 409 414 419 439 442 447 453 805 809 810 812 822 SEEN-BY: 800/843 846 868 876 890 894 @PATH: 800/809 2 1 711/808 934 |
