subject: Bloody internet

Hello Gaelyne,

GG>> The name of the program is MIRC.

CB>> I got an NT version of that a couple of days ago, installed
CB>> it, and get a "failed to connect to host" type error message
CB>> on running it. I'll ask the guy that runs the ISP service

 GG> Sigh... bloody windows users.

Yup, sigh. Problem is, like Bob L, it works well for me,
with no simple alternative...

GG> In the setup, (don't ask where coz I've never used the program - but
GG> I've seen this answer a zillion times), there's a place for you to add
GG> an initial system that you will connect to for chat, called an IRC
GG> server. There are literally hundreds of these servers. Try:

 GG> yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au
 GG> armidale.dal.net
 GG> Wollongong.NSW.AU.undernet.org

Thanks for that - the ISP said similar things, though different
server names. I'll give it another go one night this week.

CB>> and got a 512k feed from another service supplier.. 4 times

GG> I'd believe it only when you use it and find it is faster.

I've said the same myself... I'm leaving it till the 30th,
and then see for myself if accessing USA sites are quicker...

GG> Politician lies: No new taxes, and we'll leave the grannies alone.
GG> SysAdmin lies: We're getting a faster link next week.

You forgot Bob Moran's lies - This is a great and reliable car.

CB>> Anyway, yes, put me down for a copy of your book! Any idea
 CB>> on a release date?

GG> It depends on how fast the proof readers finish up with it.
GG> I've been finishing up some detailed chapters and as soon as I get the
 GG> Immigration stuff finished up

Hmmm, you coming back permanantly?

GG> I can then enjoy finishing the rest of it up.
GG> IOW, no fucking idea at all. Soon, I hope.

I'll be waiting ;)

Regards,
Chris.
