It is StarPak, and I have been learning more than I ever wanted to know
about their operation through a succession of telephone calls.  The whole
mess started when they replaced their computer system in summer 1994, and
somehow not all of the subscriber data was migrated.  The effect of this
was that many renewal notices were not sent out, which they only recently
discovered because customers were calling to complain.

Recently, their telephones have been ringing off the hook because the
shipping department has taken to sending "additional license"
packages to people who are supposed to be getting renewals, which just
happened to me today.  Instead of a package containing a CD-ROM disk, I got
a photocopied letter -- sent Airborne Express, of course -- that authorizes
me to make a copy of the CD-ROM.
