It deletes them completely if you do one of:

1. Not use SOT/EOT
2. Display kludges.

If in normal operation you don't do one of the above, then you
will normally not see any origin lines, they won't be saved on
export, and therefor it is expected that if you type "---" in
a new message, it's because you want those characters to be
sent as-is.  So it lets you.  BFN.  Paul.
