Not correct. You can add a fixed 20-round mag (provided it was made prior
to the crime bill). You can't add a removable high-capacity mag to a gun
imported with a fixed mag without some other cosmetic changes.

Such kits used to exist, but were effectively banned in 1989. I never
have seen one - I wasn't aware of the SKS back then - but why would they
ban something which didn't exist? (On second thought, that never stopped
them.)

Seen locally for somewhat less - but still nearly $300. Certainly not the
$100 you can still find new Chinese SKS with fixed mags for.
