The USA, much like the UK, is a country of laws.  Unions have legally
binding contracts with companies that companies like to ignore from time to
time and then there is a 'wake up' call.  No country allows either it's
citizens nor it's businesses to flaunt a disregard for the laws of that
country unless they are dictatorships.

Only 20% (or less) of the people in the USA belong to _any_ union
whatsoever.  This number has been reduced somewhat the last few
decades and wages (for everyone) have reflected this loss.  Union
workers 'set the standard' for payscales where unions are active
and _everyone_ makes a bit more than they did before the unions
were there.  No one likes to admit to this, they want to think they
earn more than 'dad did' because they are somehow a bit more clever
than dad was.  They are wrong.

When there are no union auto workers, no union construction workers,
no union truck drivers, etc. all wages will drop for everyone even
those in management and then they will need to explain to their
wives and children that they weren't so 'clever' after all.
