Two things make it possible to tolerate the cold.
 1. You get somewhat used to it.
 2. Much more importantly, you learn to dress and plan for the cold.
    Don't go outside without adequate layers of clothing.
    Don't get wet.
    Have the correct equipment. Even a blanket in the car can be 
    extremely important.
