subject: RAM sticks.

Hello, Wayne.

Now that the H-P Celeron is back up and running, I'll work on a
"loose end" from when we were talking back on 2/24 about - -

WC> . . . nor do they even say if their stick is tin or gold pin.

FWIW, I've looked at at least 50 SDRAM DIMMS over the past couple weeks,
and all I've seen were gold. I can't remember ever seeing one with tin
contacts.

 JH> . . . I don't think that SDRAM memory which would
JH> work for upgrading the HP is all that hard to find.

WC> You're quite likely right but you may not be in the relatively dire

 WC> with great care.

I think there's no need to work toward reaching 100% certainty of
compatibility, or to pay a large price premium for it. Just check the
return policy of your favorite store wrt RAM. For example, I recently
specifically asked at CompUSA about their return policy on RAM, and they
told me that they have a 14-day return policy on it. Buy, and if it
won't work in your machine, it can be returned for refund within 14
days. I know you have a Staples nearby, so if they have a similar return
policy on their SDRAM DIMMS, that should take a lot of pressure off of
your decision-making process. I see in today's flier that Staples
has both PC100 and PC133 by K-BYTE, with the PC100 costing a bit more.

Even so, with 128MB PC100 at under $15 AR, if it works for you, that
sure beats the socks off of the $50 a stick which you had mentioned for
'guaranteed compatible' ones.

If the HP shows any more signs of possible PS problems, please be sure
and get back to me about that, as I checked THU night where I volunteer,
and found a 150W SFX PS unit (the kind with fan sticking out the top)
there on the shelves where we keep salvaged PS.

Good luck - - - JimH.

... Jim, why does everything these days have to be so danged
complicated?-Bubba --- MultiMail/MS-DOS v0.32
