It may not be your modem, but rather your front-end. I use a SFM 28.8
(flashed to a 33.6) with Portal of Power (front-end), and have had no
problems whatsoever over the last year-and-a-half. Your problem may
be line noise, or a Binkley config problem.
I don't know if this is standard for CID, but my teleco (GTE) sends
the CID info after the first ring, and before the second ring. For
Portal to permanently record it, I had to set my logging level to
Level 5. I set Portal to two rings before logging user on to the BBS,
and the SFM is set to answer on one ring.
Looking at your example above, Binkley could be timing out if you told
it to answer after the first ring. Try setting it to answer after
three rings (in your case), and/or allowing it more time to make the
connection. I allow Portal 80 seconds, giving everything plenty of
time to intercept the CID info, go through the EMSI handshake, send
connection info, load the BBS, etc.
... Put your hands on the modem and shout HALLELUJAH!
