I'm not trying to "seize control of [your] body;" I'm simply
trying to point out that your "individual choice" to not
consistently wear a helmet when riding a bicycle may affect many
more people than just you. It strikes me as deceptive to refer
to it as an "individual choice." The choice itself may be
individual, but the consequences range much further. That is
why the government feels justified in creating legislation to
regulate use of public facilities. If we follow your "individual
choice" logic, should we allow drivers to operate vehicles at
what ever speed they may "individually choose" in residential
areas, with or without headlights after dark, as they may
"individually choose" on whichever side of the road they may
"individually choose" etc? Use of the public roadways is a
privilege, not a right, and carries with it the responsibility to
obey whatever laws the government may require as a prerequiste to
their use.
