Compromisers & Anti-Gunners Ram Brady Check Through Alabama House

Anti-gunners waded into Alabama's gun control fray, joining
with gun rights compromisers to pass Brady Check
legislation through the state House of Representatives.
The 4-day battle ended suddenly when anti-gunners joined
compromisers led by House floor boss Rep. Jack Page (D-
Gadsden) to cut off debate and force a vote on H. B. 32,
the Alabama Brady Check bill. It passed by a vote of 64 to
28.
According to CSG Executive Director George Hills, who
worked at the State House against H. B. 32, the action of
the anti-gunners was "decisive."
Procedural votes taken earlier showed the compromisers
with about a 42-30 edge, not enough to end a filibuster by
pro-gun representatives. Many anti-gunners were sitting on
the sidelines.
Before the final vote, however, it seems that the anti-gun
crowd realized that this was in fact anti-gun legislation,
as one by one they came around in support of the bill.
Surprise, surprise.
Bear in mind that the bill now goes to the Senate, where
CSG and GOA will work with you to defeat it, but those who
compromised your rights in this last house vote need to
hear from you now. They need to know that their support
is misplaced and that you expect them to oppose final
approval if it comes back from the Senate. Tell them
you'll be watching and waiting.

Recap of the Alabama Brady Check:
* It sets up a new statewide gun control agency within
the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center
(ACJIC). Retail gun buyers will have to get permission
from ACJIC bureaucrats before exercising their right to
obtain a firearm.
* Retail gun buyers will be registered and their personal
information will be sent to U. S. Attorney General
Janet Reno's computer in Washington, DC. Under the
Alabama Brady Check, information on gun buyers,
including their name, address and social security
number, is sent to ACJIC for an Alabama criminal record
check. Then, to check federal criminal records, or
records in other states, ACJIC must electronically
export the data to the National Crime Information
Center (NCIC), which is overseen by the U. S. Dept. of
Justice and Ms. Reno. Once the data crosses the state
line, the State of Alabama no longer has jurisdiction
or control over it.
* A new fee or flat tax will be imposed on citizens each
time they purchase a gun.
* The new state gun control agency will be used to
identify gun buyers with misdemeanor domestic disputes
so their guns can be confiscated under the provisions
of the Lautenberg gun ban. (Such persons are prohibited
from keeping firearms under 18 USC 922 (g) 9.)
