I recently ended up with a PROBLEM with a US$40 rebate for QuickBooks. We
had a national postal strike that lasted for many weeks and carried over past
the rebate deadline date! I was a couple of days close to the deadline, so I
decided to try UPS. I kept a copy of the dated UPS receipt. And, just to
be "safe" I and even included one with the rebate request to show them that I
made an attempt to send it before the deadline.
I later learned that UPS couldn't deliver to a PO BOX. So..I called the
rebate office and explained the situation. They said they have extended the
deadline for Canadian customers "for as long as necessary". Great. So I
waited until the postal strike was over (10 days past the rebate deadline)
but I sent the package Express Post which allows me to call a 1-800 number to
confirm the delivery.
Great. I thought all was well.
5 days later, Dec 15, the my original package is returned to me unopened and
stamped "Rebate Expired".
I proceeded to make another call to the rebate office. The person who took
my call seemed genuinely concerned and was willing to accept a FAX of all the
required documents.
What a runaround. The Rebate phone centre is located in the central US.
And the Rebate mail centre is a PO BOX in Winnipeg, Manitoba!
