Actually, according to the latest polls, that's not true.

But even if it were true, so what? The war is unwinnable, and no amount
of wishing will change that. We are never going to see happy, smiling
G.I.s handing out Hershey bars to happy, smiling Iraqi children. We are
never going to see the entire population of Iraq settling down to become
good citizens of an enlightened liberal democracy. The war in Iraq is
going to last at least another hundred years (with interludes of "peace"
imposed by tyranny) whether we're in it or not, and considerations of
Realpolitik even prevent us from picking one side that we'd like to win.

In the meantime, it has probably grown too late to prevent a hundred
years of another war, a war between barbarians, as represented by the
Islamist extremists, and civilization itself. (And it doesn't help
America's position, in particular, that she has enemies within, in the
form of "Christian" barbarians, whose treasonous agenda entails burning
the Bill of Rights, and, indeed, undoing the entire Enlightenment.
Fortunately, mere tribalism has prevented them from realizing how very
much in common they have with the external enemy, and we can can hope
that it will continue to do so for some time to come.)
