The myth of the "liberal media" was pushed on and off, haphazardly mostly,
by certain groups, until the Cold War.
During the 1950's paranoid red-baiting groups like the John Birch Society
pushed the "liberal" (re: communist) media meme to their followers.

During the late 60's Richard Nixon and his chief henchman, Spiro Agnew,
pushed the "liberal news media" meme to try to deal with increasing
exposure of the Nixon administration corruption.

During the 1980's, "liberal media" accusations would get tossed around a
lot by the corrupt right-wing groups and spokespersons, like the Moonie
Times, and Jerry Falwell.

These accusations came together in the 1990's, with wild accusations of
"liberal bias," from the same people who would make up the most scurrilous
accusations of the Clintons. All of which fell apart under actual scrutiny.

During the 2000's, any critics of George Bush and his corrupt regime were
labeled "liberal traitors that are biased."

Today, even the so-called "liberal" MSNBC has many conservatives as
commentators, who are rarely if ever challenged.
