Not at all!  The more Hams police ourselves, (keep ourselves legal), the
less time the FCC will spend thinking about us and the fewer legal
problems we will have.  It's bad enough that they have to be called in
for the few rotten apples that can be found in every barrel, so we, (the
Hams), make every effort to keep our hobby clean so that the FCC doesn't
need to interviene.  If the FCC comes to town on ONE complaint, they will
check everyone they hear on the air and are likely to nail several people
who make mistakes, like forgetting to ID themselves quite as often as the
rules state, not just the one "target" they are after.
 
THAT's big brother!  We are only trying to keep Big Brother off our backs
so that he can attend to other matters and leave us alone.  Thus, if we,
(or at least those of us who care about our hobby), see evidence that
someone is breaking the law or trying to, we will step in and attempt to
stop/prevent it before it becomes serious enough that the FCC has to deal
with it.  Ok?
 
If you want to see what it's like, buy a scanner and listen to the 2 Meter
and 450 MHz repeaters.  Get a short wave receiver and listen to the HF
bands.  If you like what you hear, learn a few rules and a little theory
and get a no-code Technician license!  Then you can join in the fun!
If you want to do more, learn the Morse code and get a higher-class
license!
