I dunno... when I was in school I remember Northern Asia being described
pretty much as everything west of the Ukraine, at least until the fall of
the USSR.

Maybe boundaries have seemed to change by politics but I don;t subscribe to
it. Seems an awful westward stretch fromt he Europe and Asia I was taught
about.

PL>> Well... then as he has been saying, the Russian portion of
PL>> FidoNet that resides in Asia should migrate to Zone 6 where
PL>> they actually belong in the first place then. How they ever
PL>> ended up being part of Z2 when geographicly they are not in
PL>> the coverage area is beyond me in the first place. That's the
 PL>> realistic part of it.

ml> the problem with this is the "old" country boundaries... remember,
ml> the USSR claimed a huge portion as their area... remember also that
ml> zones were originally set up on "country" boundaries... actually,
ml> that would be *continental* boundaries... that begs the question of
ml> where the continent of asia and the continent of europe are
ml> seperated? then one must also take into account that many things,
ml> ie: nets, were setup via "local calling areas" as well as
 ml> friendship and local connectivity...

ml> it gets to be a real stew in the pot before too long O:)
